If Continuum, the second feature length, made-for-DVD film spun off from the long-running Stargate SG-1 television series, marks the end of this wing of the franchise--and it is hardly a certainty, given the show's Lazarus-like history--then all involved, including the viewer, should be well satisfied. Continuum commingles all the elements that have made Stargate so eminently watchable over the years, including engaging characters and storyline, plenty of action, impressive sets, and first-rate special effects. This time the whole gang is on hand, as the most recent SG-1 contigent (Ben Browder as fearless leader Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Amanda Tapping as the brainy Lt. Col. Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as the implacable alien Teal'c, Michael Shanks as the ever-resourceful Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Claudia Black as the irreverent, motor-mouthed Vala) is joined by characters whose roles had been reduced or eliminated along the way; principal among the latter is Richard Dean Anderson, whose Major General Jack O'Neill makes a welcome return after sitting out The Ark of Truth, the first post-series film (both of Stargate Command's head honchos, played by Beau Bridges and the late Don S. Davis, are also back). The villain is familiar as well: Ba'al (Cliff Simon), the last of the "Goa'uld system lords," who's scheduled to be executed--or, more specifically, "extracted," whereby the bad mojo inside him will be exorcised. Things don't quite go as planned, of course. Ba'al has managed to manipulate time, creating a situation where Mitchell, Jackson, and Carter find themselves caught in a paradox, an alternate timeline in which the Stargate program never even existed, making it easy for the bad guy and his gigantic space brigade to launch an all-out attack on Earth (though long-threatened throughout the series, such an invasion never actually happened until now). Our heroes' intrepid efforts to thwart Ba'al's dastardly scheme take them from the Arctic (for real) to the cockpits of F-15 jets and even the hold of a 1930s cargo ship (built specially for the occasion). All this, and Browder portraying his own grandfather too? Yo, Stargate: Continuum rocks! --Sam Graham

4 out of 5 stars Yet Another Stargate Continuum Review...   July 14, 2008

Several weeks ago, I was invited to a Special Viewing of Stargate SG-1 Continuum. I was, obviously, very excited and shocked that I was chosen to see the movie before it came out... Plus, with all the reviews stating that this would be a typical SG1 episode (With Rick), I couldn't wait! (What can I say, I'm a HUGE RDA fan!)...
The beginning of the movie was perfect. To see the "Old Gang" together, again, made the opening that much more enjoyable! Plus, RDA was great with the character moments, and just him being himself! Trust me when I tell you that you will not be disappointed in the beginning...!
After the beginning of the movie, it seems that the writers had to "cheat" to allow the main characters to keep their memory of the altered time-line! The other problem with the movie is that it seemed to be rushed to a certain degree!
I will admit that is was extremely nice to see so many old faces, but the problem was that there wasn't enough time to spend "quality" time with all of them, and the fact of the matter is that the writers had to keep the story moving!! I will admit that they did, thankfully, have a few more character moments between the cast than in SG-1's "Ark Of Truth", but it still wasn't enough in my opinion.
Please do not get the idea that this movie was bad... In fact, I'd recommend it to anyone that enjoys the Stargate show, but at the end of the movie, you will feel like something was missing, and you'll want more, but you'll have to wait for another Stargate movie to be made!! (BTW, don't forget to look at Col. Mitchell's locker... Something will have changed; can you see what it is?) What was it Jack O'Neil said, "Even us humans know time travel is nothing but trouble...!"
In any case, I would still recommend this movie to any Stargate SG-1 fan, but in my opinion, I believe that "Ark of Truth" was a better movie, though not by much! However, I will be purchasing this movie, and hope you all do the same! Besides, if we all purchase this movie, then MGM may make more SG1 movies! (Or, perhaps they'll bring it back to T.V)

5 out of 5 stars Finally on Blu-Ray!   June 2, 2008

Any Gate fan should be excited for this product because it marks several milestones in the Stargate franchise. First, and most obvious, it's the first of any of the television products to be released in Blu-ray. With SG-1 and Atlantis coming soon I'm excited to see what they're going to look like, but this will be Hi-Def out of the box. It's amazing to see how far this show has come in funding. Another reason why this is a milestone is because it's the 'last' official SG-1 title scheduled. Featuring Richard Dean Anderson and the closing cast of SG-1 it be an explosive finish to an explosive series. And finally, it's been rumored to introduce the idea of the third spin-off series - Stargate: Universe. It's a must have for any Stargate fan and a nice final conclusion to the longest running American Sci-fi show.

**Spoilers**

The plot centers around the exploits of the Ga'ould Baal and his final (?) attempt to stop Earth from ever interfering with the reign of the Ga'ould in the galaxy. He travels through time and takes Earth's gate, preventing the Giza expedition from ever unearthing it and the Stargate program from ever forming. Somehow, the members of SG-1 are immune to the time distortion and set-off to find T'ealc, who is still the first prime to Apophis. It's a literal race against time as SG-1 try to discover the location of the gate and restore the timeline to it's correct state.

**Stargate: Universe Spoiler**

As mentioned above, it should contain information on the third upcoming series, which was recently announced to revolved around a ship that the Ancients sent out possibly millions of years before Atlantis even left Earth. This ship was following an automated ship that was planting Stargates throughout the galaxy. Apparently the Ancients established the only way to this ship was through the use of the ninth chevron on Earth's gate, which is presumedly going to be discussed for the first time in this movie.

4 out of 5 stars Good sense of closure   July 4, 2008

I enjoyed this more than The Ark of Truth. Looking back it makes a nice closing chapter in the 'trilogy' that includes the season 10 series finale, Ark of Truth and this movie. Each one gives a sense of closure to all major SG1 themes: the relationship between characters (Finale), the Ori(plus the replicators on AoT) and now the System Lords. The fist 30 minutes or so where a little boring for me because it has been reveled before but once the story gets going its a lot of fun. People who likes SG1 because it is set on earth in the present will probably like it. There where dog fights (F-15 vs Gliders) reminiscent of ID4 and a a few other things that reminded me of certain Season 5 episode of Babylon 5. There is a twist that I did not see coming that I enjoyed a lot. There are a lot of surprise guest stars and no-so-surprise ones. It suffers a little of been-there-done-that in terms of alternate time line stories but all in all a very enjoyable film for fans.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Stargate SG-1 As It Should Be!   July 17, 2008

Excellent production and story. The cast from season 10 is all there and we get a bonus with Jack O'Neill in two roles. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, as usual. Stargate Sg-1 has always maintained the highest standards and never disappoints its fans. I only wish the series had continued since Ben Browder and Claudia Black were such excellent additions to SGC. This movie can stand alone and be enjoyed by anyone with only a limited knowledge of the Stargate. For those of you who are fans of the show, it completely delivers. I have watched several times and love every minute of it!
